What did God do to Israel and Jerusalem in A.D. 70?
In A.D. 70, God sovereignly permitted the Roman army under Titus to destroy the temple and the city of Jerusalem, uprooting the Jews from the Promised Land into dispersion. This judgment came because Israel rejected the promises, their Messiah, and their King, after which God turned to the Gentile Age of Grace.
Les explains that after the crucifixion and Pentecost, Israel continued rejecting the Old Testament promises of the King and the Kingdom, as well as her role as evangelist to the pagan world. Spiritually she went down, and finally in A.D. 70—forty years after Pentecost or the crucifixion—God sovereignly permitted the Roman army under Titus to destroy the temple and Jerusalem and to uproot the Jew from the Promised Land into a dispersion continuing to the present day. Les says this happened because they rejected the promises, their Messiah, and their King. God dispersed them, took away their temple and religion, and turned to the Gentile with the Age of Grace. He also notes that all through the prophetic program God deals in specific time frames, as in Daniel 9's 490 years determined upon thy people.
