Why is the Lamb worthy to take the scroll and open its seals?

The Lamb is worthy because He was slain and has redeemed people to God by His blood. His sacrificial death, the cross, qualifies Him to take the scroll and open its seals. Redemption by His blood is an absolute of God's program, not to be compromised.

Les explains that in verse 9 the new song gives the Lamb's qualifications: He is worthy to take the scroll and open its seals because He was slain, referring to the cross, and because He redeemed us to God by His blood. His power of redemption is brought out into the open. Les stresses that many today do not like the blood aspect of the Gospel, but it cannot be compromised, since it is one of the absolutes of God's program from day one. He points to Hebrews: without the shedding of blood there is no remission, and without faith it is impossible to please Him. By His blood He redeemed us out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nations.

Revelation 5:9
