Where did Isaac tell Jacob to go to get a wife?
Isaac instructed Jacob to go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel, his mother's father, and take a wife from there among the daughters of Laban, his mother's brother. He was not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
Les explains that Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and charged him, saying, "Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan." The Canaanites were pagan, idolatrous, and immoral, and while Esau was comfortable with them, Isaac did not want Jacob involved. Instead, Isaac told Jacob to arise and go to Padan-aram, where Terah died, to the house of Bethuel his mother's father, and take a wife from the daughters of Laban his mother's brother. Les notes they married close-knittedly, and the race was still relatively pure, with a gene pool that could take these things without repercussions.
Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
