Where did Jacob go after gaining his wives and children from Laban?
With God’s leading, Jacob went down into the land of Canaan after his time with Laban, where he had acquired his wives and children. Once back in Canaan, he faced meeting his brother Esau, whom he feared because he had tricked him about 40 years earlier.
Les explains that Jacob had been up with Laban, where he gained his wives and all his children except Benjamin. From there he came down into the land of Canaan with God’s leading. As soon as he got back to Canaan, he had to meet his brother Esau, and he was scared to death because he had tricked Esau some 40 years earlier. In Genesis 32, Jacob surrounded himself with flocks and herds for protection from Esau’s wrath, but God had something else in mind: He would come down in human form, as He did throughout the Old Testament, and confront Jacob man to man in the dead of night.
