Where did Rebekah send Jacob when Esau threatened to kill him?
Rebekah sent Jacob to her brother Laban in Haran, in Syria north of present-day Damascus. She told him to arise, flee, and tarry there until Esau's anger cooled, thinking it would be a few days or weeks. It became twenty years, and Rebekah never saw Jacob again.
Les explains that Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing their father gave him, and Esau purposed in his heart to kill Jacob. When Rebekah got wind of Esau's words, she called Jacob and told him to obey her voice, arise, and flee to Laban her brother in Haran, up in Syria, north of present-day Damascus. She said to tarry with him a few days, maybe a week, two weeks, or a month, until Esau cooled off. But Les points out it turned out to be twenty years, and Rebekah never lived to see Jacob again.
