Where did Isaac send Jacob to find a wife?
Isaac sent Jacob to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel his mother's father, to take a wife from the daughters of Laban his mother's brother. He was charged not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. This was to avoid the pagan, idolatrous, immoral Canaanite women.
Les explains that Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and charged him, saying, "Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan." The Canaanites were pagan, idolatrous, and immoral, and Esau's marriages to two Canaanite women were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah. Isaac then instructed Jacob to arise and go to Padan-aram, where Terah died, to the house of Bethuel his mother's father, and to take a wife from the daughters of Laban his mother's brother. They married close-knittedly, keeping the race relatively pure. Isaac also pronounced God Almighty's blessing of fruitfulness and sustenance, with Almighty being the Hebrew word Adonai.
Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
