Why did God make a helpmeet for Adam?
God made a helpmeet for Adam because He said it was not good for the man to be alone. After Adam named the animals and no mate or helpmeet was found for him, God supplied the companion matching that need.
Les explains that in Genesis 2:18 God says, “It is not good that the man should be alone,” and promises, “I will make a helpmeet for him.” Then in verses 19–20 God formed the beasts and brought them to Adam to be named. Adam named them, but the last half of verse 20 states that for Adam there was not found a helpmeet, or a mate. Les imagines Adam watching the creatures come by, all apparently having their mates, male and female, and after a long time feeling lonely and asking the Lord why.
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
How was Eve a complement to Adam?
God said it was not good for man to be alone and promised a help mate. Eve was that complement, the counterpart who completed Adam in their relationship. She supplied what was lacking so the man was no longer alone, and together they formed the whole that God designed.
What did God say when Adam was alone, and what does the word helpmeet mean?
When Adam was alone and named the animals that each had a mate, God said, “I will make a helpmeet for him.” The word helpmeet means a compliment, that is, a completion. Eve was Adam’s completion, just as the Body of Christ will be Christ’s completion.
