Why did God make man the head of the woman?

God ordained the man as head because the woman was created next, after Adam, as his complement and helpmate. This order originated at creation for the home and family, and God never rescinded it. Headship does not make man a slave master; his wife is a helpmate and complement, not a gopher.

Les teaches that this headship is not a modern phenomenon but originated at creation. God created Adam with Eve within him, then later took Eve out of Adam and created the woman, so Adam now had his complement, was complete, and was no longer alone. Paul rests on this creation order. God made the man head of the woman because she was created next, and that was God's ordained way of setting up the home and family; it holds today because God never rescinded it. Les emphasizes that this does not make the man a slave master or his wife a gopher; she is a helpmate and complement, and men are to understand that. In I Corinthians 11:12, the woman is of the man, even so the man also by the woman.
