What is the Septuagint and where did it come from?

The Septuagint is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament. It originated in Alexandria, Egypt, around 300 years before Christ, when Jewish scholars gathered and translated the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek. It is regarded as a valid translation because Jesus frequently quoted from it, indicating it was not a forgery.

Les explains that the Septuagint originated in Alexandria, Egypt, where there was a seminary of sorts. Jewish scholars came together about 300 years before Christ and translated the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek. Les believes it was a valid translation because Jesus quoted from it over and over, and He would not have done so if it were a forgery. This same city, Alexandria, was where Apollos was born; he came from that area of intellectual Hebrews, Jews, and was an eloquent man with a gift of oratory.
