What does the miracle of salvation actually create inside a person?

The miracle of salvation creates within a person a whole new mind, will, and emotion. The personality is totally recreated, old Adam dies, and God miraculously gives a transformed mind, transfiguring a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint. It is not something the person can accomplish; God alone performs this work.

Les teaches that the One who saves is the One who causes the metamorphosis and transfigures a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint. A person cannot do anything to bring this about. All anyone can do is stand before a Holy God and admit there is nothing they can do and no way to move themselves. Les compares this to Israel at the Red Sea: they were told to stand still, not scavenge driftwood or build a bridge. The unbeliever must come to that same place, unable to do anything until God moves in and performs the miracle of salvation. In this verse, that miracle creates within us a whole new mind, will, and emotion. The personality has to be totally recreated. Old Adam has to die, along with all its things concerning the world, and in his place God, by a miraculous work, gives that transformed mind.

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We can do nothing to save or transform ourselves; all we can do is stand naked before a Holy God and admit we cannot even move from where we are.
