What did God do when Adam and Eve hid after sinning?

After Adam and Eve sinned and hid, God did not abandon them. He came, found them, addressed Adam, and restored them. Their fig leaves could not make them fit to meet their righteous Creator, but God showed mercy and grace, revealing that grace was already evident in the Garden.

Les explains that Adam and Eve sinned by partaking of the forbidden tree, immediately saw their nakedness, and sewed fig leaves. When they heard the Lord coming, those fig leaves fell into nothing, so they ran and hid. God did not give up; He found them, saw them hiding, and called, 'Adam, where art thou?' Adam responded. Les emphasizes that God restored them, which is mercy and grace. This shows grace was already evident in the Garden, not something unknown until Paul. Les also notes God's mercy and grace kept Israel from destruction after the golden calf and after they rejected the Messiah, and it explains why God has forestalled destroying humanity.
