What did Jacob have when he left Laban?
After twenty years with Laban, Jacob left with two wives, Leah and Rachel, and many sons—eleven born in Haran through them and their handmaids. He also possessed the best of the flocks and herds, along with children and grandchildren, returning as a large caravan.
Les explains that Jacob spent twenty years with Laban, and despite Laban's repeated trickery, Jacob ended with the upper hand. He had two wives, Leah and Rachel, and through them and their handmaids he had eleven sons while still in Haran: Leah bore six sons, then sons came by Leah's handmaid, and finally Rachel's handmaid bore sons, with Rachel herself bearing Joseph. The twelfth son, Benjamin, would be born later in Canaan, though Rachel died in childbirth. Jacob also left with the best of the flocks and herds, all his children and grandchildren, and came back as quite a caravan.
