Moses pleaded with God to spare Israel, asking that if it would help, his own name be blotted out of the book of life, but that Israel be spared. This mirrors Paul’s later willingness to be accursed from Christ for Israel’s sake.

Les explains that Paul had great heaviness and continual sorrow in his heart for Israel, even saying he could wish himself accursed from Christ. Les then asks who else said almost the same thing and answers Moses. Moses said, “Oh God, spare this people, and if it will help, blot my name out of the book of life, but spare Israel.” Moses was willing to be blotted out if it would help spare Israel.
