Can we understand what we will be in eternity?

We cannot fully comprehend what we will be in eternity, because it does not yet appear what we shall be. However, this much is known: when the Lord Jesus Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

Les explains that although believers are now the children of God, it does not yet appear what we shall be; we cannot comprehend that eternal future. But this much we know: when the Lord Jesus Christ shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Les also contrasts this with the world's expectation that the United Nations or earthly efforts will solve all problems and bring peace. There will be no peace on earth until the Prince of Peace comes, and praying for the peace of Jerusalem is really praying for the Lord's coming.

1 John 3:2

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Are we God's children now or only in the future?

"Beloved, now are we the sons/children of God" means believers are God's children right now, not merely hoping or thinking they might be.
