Does our walking get us into Christ?
No. Being in Christ is not obtained by our walking. The context states plainly that if it sounded like we got into Christ by virtue of our walking, we did not. Our walk does not place us into Christ; that standing is not earned or produced by our conduct.
Les explains that his major premise is that a person does not get into Christ by virtue of their walking. He notes that if it sounds like we got in Christ by our walking, we did not. He then moves to verse 2, where the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death. He reminds us that the word 'law' must be determined by context. Sometimes law means a fact of everyday living, like the Law of Gravity or the Law of Buoyancy—absolute principles no man can change. Similarly, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus frees us from another established absolute, the law of sin and death, which was operating every day.
