Why do animals kill and eat other animals?
Animals kill and eat other animals because the curse fell upon creation. The present-day ecology, in which one species feeds on another, was set up at that time; it is not the way God originally created it. Scripture says creation was subjected to vanity in hope.
Les explains that as soon as the curse fell, today’s ecology was established, so that one species of animal or bird makes its subsistence on another species. He points to wildlife accounts where a leopard stalks a deer or zebra, and birds rob other birds’ nests, noting that this is not the way God created it but is the result of the curse. Romans 8 says the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of Him who subjected the same in hope. Les adds that God came back with a remedy through the Redeemer, the Son, and the seed of the woman, and that creation awaits the day the curse will be lifted.
