Les Feldick Bible Study

When did God first allow killing and eating other species?

God first allowed killing and eating other species after the Flood, when Noah was instructed that he could kill and eat the meat of animals. Before Adam sinned, the entire animal kingdom ate only what grew naturally from the ground, and no permission to kill and eat other species existed.

Les explains that God did not grant permission even to the animal kingdom to kill and eat other species until long after the curse. He places that permission probably after the Flood, when Noah was told he could now kill and eat the meat of animals. Before Adam sinned, nothing in the animal kingdom ate anything except what grew naturally. Isaiah 11 pictures the future kingdom, when even ferocious, carnivorous, meat-eating species will cohabit the same pasture with the lamb, the goat, and human children, because all the ravages of the curse will be gone and creation will revert to its pre-sin beauty, glory, and tranquility.
