Les Feldick Bible Study

Do cattle and other livestock establish a pecking order when put together?

Yes. When a bunch of cattle or other livestock are put together, they immediately establish a pecking order. The one at the bottom will not compete with the one at the top. This behavior was first noticed in chickens but is true in most livestock.

Les explains that the term "pecking order" was coined by agricultural college researchers who were watching chickens. In every flock, whether small or large, the chickens immediately set up a pecking order. He says he has watched it and that it is true in most livestock, whether cattle or whatever. When you put a bunch of them together, they establish their pecking order, and the one down at the bottom will never try to compete with the one at the top. He then applies this same principle to the human makeup, where abuse can pass from an abusive father or husband to the wife and then to the children.
