Les Feldick Bible Study

Why do animals kill and eat other animals if God created the world good?

Scripture teaches that animal predation is not how God originally created the world. When the curse fell, present-day ecology was set up so one species feeds on another. Paul writes that creation was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but in hope that the curse will be lifted through the Redeemer.

Les explains that as soon as the curse fell, all of the present-day ecology was set up, meaning one species of animal or bird feeds and makes its subsistence on another species. He points to wildlife examples such as a leopard stalking a deer or zebra, and birds robbing other birds' nests. That is not the way God created it; it is the result of the curse. Les then ties this to Romans chapter 8, where creation is aware it was subjected to the curse but also that the day is coming when the curse will be lifted. Paul writes by inspiration that the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who subjected the same in hope. As soon as the curse fell, God said He had a remedy through the Redeemer, through the Son, and through the seed of the woman.
