What does it mean to have faith in God’s promise after you call on the Lord?
Having faith in God’s promise after calling on the Lord means trusting what God has said and refusing to let doubt override it. It is verbally affirming, “God, You promised it,” and resting in the assurance that He responds because you have done what He said to do.
Les explains that this kind of faith becomes practical when Satan returns to cast doubt. The believer should come back to Romans 10 and verbally say out loud, “But God, You promised it.” Faith, as he describes it, is saying, “You promised, and I did what You said I should do.” Having called upon the Lord and believed the Gospel, the person then wants assurance that what God has said is true. Les also counsels doubting people not to go through life doubting, but to kneel and ask the Lord to save them if they are not truly saved. He recalls a lady who did this and found a difference, knowing she had called upon Him, He had saved her, and she no longer had doubts. The Scripture says to make your calling and election sure.
