What is faith?

Faith is taking God at His Word: God said it, we believe it, and God recognizes it. It comes by hearing the Word, not by works, and involves believing that Christ died and rose again, by which God moves in and does everything that needs to be done.

Les explains that faith is taking God at His Word—God said it, we believe it, and God recognizes it. On that basis, He moves in and does everything that needs to be done. Faith comes by hearing, not by working; we contemplate and recognize that Christ died and rose from the dead, and we believe it. By believing, we listen to the Word of God. Les acknowledges this is simplification and many cannot accept it, but Scripture says it is by faith, not the works of the Law. Repetition is the mother of learning, so these things must be heard over and over. In Galatians, having begun in the Spirit, they are not made perfect by the flesh, which refers to the Law—fleshly, weak, and beggarly. The Spirit is received by the hearing of faith, not by the works of the Law.
