Why have most people stopped talking about hell?

Most people have stopped talking about hell because it is an awful, horrendous place of eternal bodily torment. Its severity makes the subject deeply uncomfortable, so it is avoided, yet its absence from conversation does not remove it from Scripture.

Les explains that hell is a place of torment forever and ever, bodily, with all senses and feelings. Because it is so awful, most people have quit talking about it, but that does not take it out of Scripture. It is going to be horrendous. Yet God, through the finished work of the cross, has made it possible for every human being to escape it. Those who go there will realize they made their choice; even those who seem never to have heard are without excuse. Part of the torment is the constant regret that they did not have to be there. Les often points out from John 10 that the door into the sheepfold is at ground level, right in front of every person, not on a high cliff, across a raging river, or across the ocean. God is absolutely just and fair, and it will be a place of judgment. Some suggest believers will sit in an amphitheater and look on, which is a horror of horrors.
