What did Les teach about Old Testament prophecy?
Old Testament prophecy consists of prophetic statements concerning God and the nation of Israel, always set within a time frame. The 490 years determined upon Israel include segments of 40 years. Prophecy was interrupted after the crucifixion because the tribulation did not come, and God set Israel aside to turn to the Gentiles, not giving up on Israel.
Les teaches that Old Testament prophecy is made up of prophetic statements concerning God and the nation of Israel, but always within a time frame. He points out that 490 years are determined upon Israel, with segments of 40 years here and there. The prophecy was interrupted because the tribulation did not come in after the crucifixion; in the book of Acts none of it happens. Les explains that God does not give up on Israel, as Paul says in Romans 11: they have not fallen out of God's program but are set aside for a period while God turns to the Gentiles. He pictures this as a parenthesis: the book of Acts covers 40 years up to 70 A.D., when Titus destroyed the temple and Jerusalem and Israel was dispersed, becoming like corpses among the Gentiles in Ezekiel 37. After that dispersion comes a period totally out of a time frame.
