Who is the Lion of the tribe of Judah in Revelation 5:5?

Christ, God the Son, is the Lion of the tribe of Judah in Revelation 5:5. He is Israel's King, the King of kings, the Son of God, the One crucified, risen, and ascended, who prevailed and is able to open the scroll.

Les teaches that when John weeps, one of the 24 elders tells him not to weep, saying, "Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed and is able to open the scroll." Les identifies this Lion as Christ, God the Son. In verse 6, John sees a Lamb standing in the midst of the throne and the elders. Les notes that John is the only biblical writer who uses the expression "the Lamb of God"; Paul and the Gospels do not use it except John. The Lamb is slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which Les connects to the seven spirits seen in Isaiah 11. In verse 7, the Lion of the tribe of Judah—Israel's King, the King of kings, the Son of God, the One crucified, risen, and ascended—takes the scroll from the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. Les explains this requires bringing the Trinity into view: God the Father is on the throne, because Christ is not on the throne tonight.

Revelation 5:5
