Who is the Lion of the tribe of Judah?

Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, first and foremost the King of kings and Lord of lords. This title emphasizes His royal kingship, and Matthew's Gospel depicts Him as the king, while the other Gospels present Him as servant, Son of Man, and Son of God.

Les explains that the four faces picture how all Scripture depicts Christ from these same viewpoints. He is first and foremost the lion of the tribe of Judah, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Matthew's Gospel depicts Him as the king; Mark depicts Him as the servant, as seen in the foot-washing; Luke depicts Him as the Son of Man, His humanity; and John's Gospel depicts Him as the Son of God, His deity.
