How does the false prophet's work parallel the Holy Spirit's work?
The false prophet parallels the Holy Spirit as a counterfeit within Revelation's counterfeit trinity. Just as the Holy Spirit draws people to God the Son, this religious leader causes humanity to worship the Antichrist. He performs great wonders, even calling fire from heaven, but uses miracles to deceive, unlike the Holy Spirit who never deceives.
Les explains that Revelation contains a counterfeit trinity: Satan counterfeits God the Father, the Antichrist counterfeits God the Son, and the false prophet—this religious leader—counterfeits the Holy Spirit. The parallel is functional: as the genuine Holy Spirit draws people to God the Son, this counterfeit causes people to worship the Antichrist, the counterfeit Son. This false prophet does much of what the Holy Spirit does legitimately, including great wonders and making fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. But since he is a counterfeit, he deceives those who dwell on the earth by the miracles he has power to do, whereas the Holy Spirit will never deceive.
