How does the peace of God protect a believer's mental health?

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, guards the believer’s heart and mind, preserving whole mental health. As believers pray and leave everything in heaven’s throne room, they can come away daily with this peace. Even amid adverse circumstances, God’s assurance keeps their mental health in balance.

Les explains that making peace with God occurs at salvation, when the sinner separated from God is reconciled through the work of the cross, so there is no longer enmity and the believer is now God’s child. Then, as one walks the Christian life, there can be outpourings of the peace of God. It never leaves, but can be experienced more at some times than others, similar to the filling of the Spirit. As believers pray and leave everything in the throne room of heaven, they can come away every day knowing the peace of God which passeth all understanding. This peace is beyond human concept, and only the believer understands it. When a believer has that peace, it keeps the heart and mind—the whole mental health. Even through adverse circumstances, mental health can be kept in balance by the assurance that God has given His peace.

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
