Les Feldick Bible Study

What is genuine prophecy?

Genuine prophecy is God revealing future events long in advance that come to pass exactly as He has declared. In this passage God tells Abram his descendants will be strangers, afflicted four hundred years in Egypt, then judged and come out with great substance, and return in the fourth generation.

Les teaches that this is probably the beginning of genuine prophecy, because God is now telling Abraham things that will take place long into the future and will come true exactly as He says. God tells Abram that his seed will be a stranger in a land not theirs—Egypt—and will serve and be afflicted four hundred years. God will judge that nation, and afterward they will come out with great substance. Abram himself will go to his fathers in peace and be buried in a good old age. In the fourth generation, his children’s children will come back to Canaan. Les ties this to Deuteronomy 7 and 20, explaining God waited because the iniquity of the Amorites, representing all the Canaanite tribes, was not yet complete.

Genesis 15:13
