Les Feldick Bible Study

What is the reason for teaching prophecy?

Prophecy is taught to demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is the Word of God. No other book makes such prophetic statements. Its fulfilled prophecies, spoken hundreds or thousands of years in advance, confirm divine origin, and the same God who fulfilled the first 90 percent will finish the last 10 percent.

Les explains that the reason for teaching prophecy is to show beyond a shadow of a doubt that this book is the Word of God. He contrasts the Bible with the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and anything else people may claim as their guideline for doctrine, saying no other book written under heaven makes prophetic statements like the Bible does—hundreds, even thousands, of years before they happen. They all come true, and what has not yet come true will come true. If prophecy has been fulfilled to the last jot and tittle, as much of the Old Testament already has been, then there is no reason to doubt the rest. The same God who fulfilled the first 90 percent of prophecy will finish the last 10 percent. This is also connected to why they like to spend much time in prayer, while their present study comes up through the Old Testament and returns to Daniel chapter 8, which they skipped, with Daniel in captivity under the Babylonian empire in progressive revelation.
