Why do time, space, and matter all have to be present for a universe to exist?
The universe functions only when time, space, and matter are all present together. Remove any one of the three and no universe remains, because creation operates as matter moving through space during a given period of time. That threefold arrangement is what makes the whole universe function.
Les teaches that creation itself rests upon a basic trinity of time, space, and matter. If you take any one of those three away, you have not got a universe, because that is what the whole function is. Whether it is a planet, the moons, or people, it is matter moving through space in a given period of time, and that is what makes the whole universe function. He also uses water as an example—liquid, solid, gas—to show that many things in creation rest upon a trinity of sorts, though he avoids the word trinity for water because we normally think of the Godhead.
