Why doesn't the universe explode?
The universe does not explode because God the Son controls every particle by the power of His Word. Scripture teaches that by Him all things consist—held together. He created all things and sustains them, preventing nuclear fission from tearing the cosmos apart.
Les explains that verse 16 ties with Genesis 1, stating that by the Son all things were created in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities—even Satan himself is a created being. Not only did He create them, but they were created for Him and His purposes. Verse 17 says He is before all things, and by Him all things consist—held together. Les asks why the universe doesn't just explode in nuclear fission, why planets don't act like atoms splitting into tremendous energy and explosion. He thinks someday they will, but tonight they don't because God the Son controls every particle of it with His Word, with the power of His Word.
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
