How did Rebekah warn Jacob that Esau planned to kill him?

Rebekah sent for her younger son Jacob and told him that his brother Esau was comforting himself with plans to kill him. She then urged him to obey her voice, arise, and flee to her brother Laban in Haran for a short time until Esau's anger cooled.

Les explains that the words of Esau, the elder son, were told to Rebekah, so she got wind of his intention. She sent and called Jacob her younger son and said, “Behold thy brother Esau, as touching thee doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.” She then instructed Jacob to obey her voice, arise, and flee to Laban her brother in Haran, north of present-day Damascus, and tarry with him a few days, perhaps a week, two weeks, or a month, until Esau cooled off. But it turned out to be twenty years, and Rebekah never lived to see Jacob again. This warning came after Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing, and though Esau recuperated and lived many years, the hatred remained in his heart.

Genesis 27:42

And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
