What happens when someone puts the law on people?
When the law is placed on people, it puts them in a place of superstition and fear, scared to death they are not doing things right or not doing enough. This is the spirit of bondage, contrasted with the spirit of adoption in Christ.

Anytime somebody puts the law on people, it puts them in superstition and fear, scared to death they are not doing things right or not doing enough. Paul says believers have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear. Instead, they have received the spirit of adoption, which places them in Christ, whereby they cry, Abba, Father, and can call God their Father. The Holy Spirit Himself bears witness with their spirit.
