What happens to a person who claims they are keeping the Law?
Anyone who claims to be keeping the Law places themselves under the curse. Scripture shows Israel promised at Sinai, "All that the LORD hath spoken we will do," yet people cannot keep the Law. Their self-confidence does not fulfill it; the claim brings them under the curse.
Les explains that Israel had just been led out of Egypt and was gathered around Mount Sinai, where God was preparing, through Moses and Aaron, to bring the nation under the system of Law. Israel responded in Exodus 19 by saying together, "All that the LORD hath spoken we will do." Les suggests the Lord must have smiled and thought that is what they think, because people cannot keep the Law. Anytime someone says, "Well, I'm doing the best I can, I'm keeping the Law," Les teaches that they are putting themselves under the curse.
