What happens when the Law comes to a person who seems to have everything under control?
When the Law comes to someone who appears to have everything under control, it acts like a cattle prod on old Adam: he loses his poise and erupts, revealing pent-up power for wickedness and obstinacy. The Law smashes the controlled exterior, exposing what was hidden beneath.
Les explains that the beautiful, contented steed is a picture of old Adam. People can groom him, control him, and fool the world into thinking he is okay. But then something makes old Adam erupt like an animal hit with a bunch of cattle prods. The cattle prod is the Law. People can be veneered, beautiful, and seem to have everything under control. Then one day the Law comes. They may have read it and memorized it, but never really heard it. When the Law comes, it smashes old Adam, and he erupts. Les says he will take listeners to Romans chapter 7 later, several programs away, to look at it more in detail.
