What can the law do?
The law can do nothing. It has no mercy, cannot save anybody, and its only function is to condemn. As taught, the law is demanding and provides no mercy or salvation; it only condemns. The law cannot save anyone; all it can do is condemn.
Les teaches that the law is the demanding law, and there is no mercy in it. He stresses that the only thing the law can do is condemn; it cannot save anybody. In Leviticus 16, the law is pictured under the mercy seat, yet the law itself has no mercy. Les notes that Aaron had to come into the holy place with a young bullock for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, wearing holy linen garments, but this does not change the law’s function: all the law can do is condemn.
