Les Feldick Bible Study

In what way is man created in the image of God?

Man is created in God's image not primarily in physical appearance or body, since God is not described as having a physical body, but in the invisible realm of the soul and spirit. The soul comprises mind, will, and emotion, making man a kind of trinity.

Les teaches that Genesis 1:26 shows man is created in the image of God, but not so much in physical appearance or body, because we know nothing of God having a body or physical appearance. Instead, the image of God is in the invisible area of the soul and spirit. Les explains that in man's soul we become a trinity of sorts: mind, will, and emotion. He notes that the mind is a definite entity but invisible—the brain can be dissected and studied, yet the mind cannot be put on a table and examined. The will is likewise a definite entity, and a person comes by exercising the will. Hebrews 4:12 is used to show the Word of God can separate soul and spirit.

Genesis 1:26

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
