What did Satan offer Jesus from the high mountain?

From an exceedingly high mountain, Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and offered to give them to Him. He promised these material kingdoms if Jesus would fall down and worship him. The context notes the Roman Empire's vast reach and that Satan claimed the kingdoms were his to give.

Les explains that Satan took Jesus to an exceedingly high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, which at that time was the Roman Empire reaching from the British Isles to the Ganges River of India. Satan offered to give Jesus all these material kingdoms if He would fall down and worship him. Les emphasizes this proves Satan is the God of this world, in control under God, and the kingdoms were his to give. Yet Satan did not know the coming day when all kingdoms will be Christ's, who will be King of kings and Lord of lords by defeating Satan, not by worshiping him.

Matthew 4:8

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Matthew 4:9

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
