What did Satan offer Jesus in the temptation on the mountain?
On an exceeding high mountain, the devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of this world and their glory. He offered to give Jesus all these earthly kingdoms if Jesus would fall down and worship him. The offer was conditional upon worshiping Satan.
Les teaches that in Matthew 4:8, Satan took Jesus up into an exceeding high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of this world and the glory of them. Verse 9 records Satan's offer: all these earthly kingdoms would be given to Jesus if He would fall down and worship him. Les reminds us that Satan is a spiritual being and Christ was spiritual even though He was in the flesh, so from that high preeminent area they could view not only physically all four directions but also, as spirit beings, look back to the Garden of Eden and forward to the very end of time, seeing all the empires and kingdoms. Les emphasizes the audacity of Satan offering these earthly kingdoms on that condition.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
