What does the Old Adam do to believers?

The Old Adam, though God reckons him dead, remains active in believers' experience. He attacks, pops thoughts into their minds, catches them in moments of weakness, and constantly confronts them to go the direction of the old Adamic nature, opposing the new nature energized by the Holy Spirit.

Les teaches that although God reckons the Old Adam absolutely dead, in experience he is still there. The Old Adam attacks believers, and Les says he does not mind the attacks of Satan half as much as the attacks of his Old Adam. The Old Adam pops thoughts into our minds and catches us in moments of weakness. He constantly confronts us to still go the direction of the Old Adamic nature, but opposite him believers have a new nature energized by the Holy Spirit. This is Paul's whole thrust: believers now have two forces working within them.
