What does the Old Adam do in a believer's mind?

The Old Adam in a believer's mind actively injects thoughts, exploits moments of weakness, and continually confronts the believer to follow the old Adamic nature. Although God reckons the Old Adam dead, in experience he remains present, opposing the new nature that is energized by the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that the Old Adam is not merely a past condition but a present force. Even though God reckons the Old Adam absolutely dead, in the believer's experience he is still there. The Old Adam pops thoughts into our minds, catches us in moments of weakness, and constantly confronts us to still go the direction of the Old Adamic nature. The believer's difficulty in daily life is often more from the Old Adam than from Satan, though Satan's power is real. Opposite the Old Adam stands the new nature, which is energized by the Holy Spirit.
