How should believers respond to old Adam?
Believers should not give in to old Adam but keep him under control, understanding that God reckons him dead and defeated, and reckon him as such. Though old Adam will still attack in experience, they must stand on Scripture and restrain the old sin nature.
Les teaches that old Adam is the old sin nature, the source of all our problems, and that in experience he will be at our throat, trying to do something contrary to the will of God. Therefore believers are to go by what Scripture says, not give in to old Adam, but keep him under control. Paul says he does not beat the air but keeps his body under control. God reckons old Adam as dead; we are to understand that he has been defeated and reckon him as such, even though he will still attack before the day is over. This runs counter to present-day sociology and positive thinkers who claim people are basically good and can do whatever they want.
