Who created all things in heaven and earth according to Colossians 1:16?
According to Colossians 1:16, all things in heaven and earth were created by God the Son, the pre-eternal Christ. The verse says that by Him all things were created, visible and invisible, including thrones and dominions, and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Les teaches that Colossians 1:15–16 refers to God the Son, who stepped out of the invisible Godhead and became visible. He explains that Christ was pre-eternal in His existence, just like God the Father and God the Spirit. In verse 16, the text declares that by Him all things were created—things in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, and so forth. He connects this to Christ as the Head of the Body, the Church, the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, referring to His resurrection, so that in all things He might have the pre-eminence. It pleased the Father that in Christ all fullness should dwell, and the members of the Godhead are not one above another but are all co-equal.
