Who created all things in heaven and on earth?
Scripture teaches that God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth. By Him all things were created, visible and invisible, including thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, and everything was created by Him and for Him.
Les explains that the pronoun 'who' in verse 15 refers to the Son, whose blood was given for our redemption and forgiveness. Paul writes that this Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. Les points out that God is invisible—the Trinity, the Elohim of the Old Testament, was that invisible Godhead, its spirit. But out of that invisible Trinity stepped one person of the Godhead, and He took on flesh and became visible. This God, the Son, Lord Jesus as we know Him, is the image or visible appearance of the invisible God. Then in verse 16, by Him, by God the Son, were all things created that are in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Les emphasizes that He is the Creator, and one day every human being will know Him as such; the lost will meet Him at the great white throne.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
