Who created all things visible and invisible, including thrones and powers, according to Colossians 1:16?

Colossians 1:16 identifies God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as Creator of all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible. It includes thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, and declares that everything was created by Him and for Him.

Les explains that the pronoun “who” points back to the Son whose blood provided redemption and forgiveness. In verse 15, Paul calls Him the image of the invisible God. God in His essence is invisible—the Trinity, the Elohim of the Old Testament—but one person of that Godhead stepped out, took on flesh, and became visible. That visible God, the Son, is the firstborn of every creature, existing before anything else. Then verse 16 says that by Him, by God the Son, all things were created that are in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Les emphasizes that He is the Creator, and it is blasphemy to reduce Him to the level of mankind’s other imagined gods. One day every human being will know Him as such; the lost will meet Him at the great white throne and will not argue.
