What does it mean to be ungodly?

To be ungodly means to be without God in one's life. The prefix 'un' means 'without.' It does not necessarily describe someone on skid row or in prostitution. A person may be an exemplary citizen or morally better than many Christians, yet still be ungodly, unbelieving, and without faith.

Les explains that people often misunderstand the word 'ungodly,' assuming it refers to someone down on skid row or in prostitution. Instead, he defines it by the prefix 'un,' which means 'without.' So an ungodly person is simply someone who is without God in their life. In the context of Paul's warning about being unequally yoked with unbelievers, Les stresses that this does not mean unbelievers are awful or bad. They may be perfectly good people, even morally better than many Christians, but they are still unbelievers and without faith. And without faith it is impossible to please God. Les also clarifies he is not speaking of a Christian marrying someone from the gutter; the point is separation.
