Why are people unrighteous and ungodly before God?
People are unrighteous and ungodly before God not because of their actions or lifestyle, but because God has decreed every child of Adam to be a sinner. Sin entered through Adam, so humans are not sinners merely because they broke God's law; they broke His law because they were already sinners.
Les teaches that many people insist they are not that bad, have never really sinned, never done anything immoral, and never stolen, so he had to go back to Genesis and show that it all began with Adam. The key is that we are not sinners because we broke God's law; we broke His law because we are sinners, and that began with Adam. In Adam every human being became a sinner. Therefore people are unrighteous and ungodly not because of what they are doing or because of their lifestyle, but because God has decreed every child of Adam as being a sinner. There can be good sinners, wet sinners, and dry sinners, but they are all sinners until they recognize it and are saved by believing the gospel. Paul writes to believers, reminding them that God commended His love toward us while we were yet sinners, and that they too were once sinners, sons and daughters of Adam just as everyone else.
