Les Feldick Bible Study

How do I know that I have believed enough?

You do not gauge it by measuring the amount of belief. Belief that counts is not mere head knowledge or historical agreement that Christ lived, died, and rose from the dead. It comes from the heart—the central part of a person that relates to the spirit world, where God begins and finishes His work.

Les explains that the question "How do I know that I have believed enough?" is a good one, because people often get the idea that if they just believe, then evidently they are all right. But most people, especially in our beloved nation, believe only the historical fact that Christ lived and died; they may even give a head knowledge assent that He rose from the dead. That is not believing, Les says. Believing does not come from the head; it comes from the heart. He points out that even the Bible speaks of the heart in the chest area—when the stones were put in a little pouch on the chest, not the back or hips, because it was the love of Israel next to the heart. The heart here is not the physical pumping organ but the central part of us that has a relationship with the spirit world, and it is in that area where God must begin and finish His work. So the issue is not the amount of belief but whether it is heart trust rather than mere head assent.
