How much does a person need to add to believing to be saved?
A person needs to add nothing to believing for salvation. Scripture presents salvation as coming by believing the gospel of the finished work of the cross—Christ crucified, buried, and risen—not by baptism, church membership, or any other human work, because Christ has done it all.
Les explains that salvation comes by believing the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and nothing else. He points to 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, where the gospel is that Christ was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead, with the shed blood implied in His death. He calls this the finished work of the cross. Les also highlights what Scripture does not say: it never adds baptism, church membership, or “blah, blah, blah” to believing. The Bible is plain that salvation is by believing plus nothing, because Christ has done it all.
