What does God promise to do for Israel in Exodus 23:20?

In Exodus 23:20, God promises to send an angel before Israel to keep them in the way and to bring them into the place He has prepared. The passage identifies this angel as Jehovah Himself, God the Son, the Redeemer, who will lead them.

Les explains that the angel in Exodus 23:20 is Jehovah Himself, the angel of the Lord, who is always God the Son. He points out that Jacob referred to Him as the redeeming angel in Genesis 46, and that Scripture has only one Redeemer, God the Son—Jehovah in the Old Testament, Christ in the New. Therefore, the promise is that Jehovah will go before Israel to keep them in the way and bring them into the prepared place, and He will lead them. Les also reads verse 23, where God says His angel shall go before them and bring them into the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and He will cut them off. He then connects this to verse 27, where God will send His fear before them and destroy.

Exodus 23:20

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
